Waking up this morning was somewhat of a surprise. Everything aboard the boat is Russian, the writing, the announcements, the people…all of it. There were people milling about all over the place when I headed out of my cabin. I could tell something was happening and it took me a good half hour of asking staff who spoke no English to eventually work out what was happening. Having finally found a tiny leaflet at one of the info points I worked out that we had just docked in Tallinn Estonia for the day before heading on again tonight to St Petersburg! What a nice surprise this was though as Tallinn is one of the most picturesque towns I’ve ever seen. I kept expecting to see Charlie running through the streets clutching his golden ticket for Willy Wonka’s factory it has that kind of a feel about the place. I took a slow ramble around the Old town and it’s definitely a place I would come back to and explore some more for a few days when I’ve finished this trip. The Old town is ever so pretty and they have some lovely little bars and cafe’s dotted about serving up great food and drinks.
One thing I did noticed last night is that you can definitely tell your on a Russian boat when you can get cigarettes at £1.50 a pack and a bottle of decent Vodka for £5 in the duty free shop!
