It’s my last day in Stockholm then off for my ferry to St Petersburg. I haven’t had a chance to do much as I need to get packed up and sort out how I get to the ferry terminal in time. I’ve enjoyed Stockholm very much, a beautiful city and very friendly locals. The amount of free drinks I’ve had in a very expensive city is testament to the generous nature of the Swedes and I’m very grateful for the hospitality I’ve enjoyed during my short stay.
I made it to the ferry fine and now on-board I am blatantly the only non-Russian on the ship! Everything is written in Russian as well so I haven’t a clue what I’m doing at all but sure I’ll muddle through somehow. It’s been funny sitting watching the Russian TV station they have on-board as it’s all old school propaganda style television. Showing a constant loop of old Russian ice hockey matches where they beat Canada and the USA, old clips of American military failures etc, it’s quite comical and the Russians seem to be lapping it up. In an uncomfortable way I feel a bit under dressed as well as the folks on board are obviously all wealthy Russians on their Baltic booze cruise. All the blokes are in smart shirts or suits wearing far too much after shave and gold bling and the women look like a parade of dodgy well dressed Russian brides……I however am sporting a Stussy t-shirt, a pair of raggy combats and messy hair…I appear to be somewhat of a curiosity to the rest of the boats population!
