We decided to get out and about a bit further today.

We popped into the Library for a bit lunch which I highly recommend if you’re in Dam. The food is great value, it’s a cracking piece of architecture the building itself and from the cafe on the 7th floor you get some great panoramic views of the city.

The afternoon was interesting to say the least. We took a tram out to De Nieuwe Ooster Cemetery which is past the zoo and out-of-town. Now I know your thinking “why a cemetery?” and “How interesting can it be?” but trust me a dutch cemetery is a spectacle in itself that warrants a visit if you ever have time. This Cemetery in particular has hundreds of different trees from all over the world planted throughout it. Each tree is carefully labelled so any green fingered tree hugger can find out what they are looking at. It’s an impressive sight to see the montage of colours and textures swirling and swaying around you…..but not as impressive as the lengths the dutch go to dress up their gravestones! The amount of effort and dedication some of the graves have had applied to them is boggling to say the least. Anything from guitars and gnomes to computer screens and buckets and spades adorn the various graves around!

Dinner today was possibly the best food I have ever tasted from a small place in Jordaan called Daalder. If you get the chance I highly recommend it. The chef does meals from 3-6 courses, and you don’t know what you will get!!! But trust me you will leave impressed by his creativity of flavours and textures. You can check out what Daalder has to offer here http://www.daalderamsterdam.nl/en/
